Scholarship Eligibility

The T. Dustin Alward Scholarship offers financial assistance to 2026 graduating high school seniors who have a parent or legal guardian who is a member in good standing of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts or a parent, grandparent or legal guardian who is retired or is a deceased member of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts. Students planning to attend a post-secondary institution are encouraged to apply. Recipients are chosen for their demonstration of financial need, scholastic aptitude and good citizenship.

The Committee will award at least 10 scholarships: a $2,000 scholarship to students attending four-year college or a $1,000 scholarship to students attending a two-year college. 

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Applications must be returned no later than April 30, 2026.

  1. No distinction as to race, color, creed, or sex shall be drawn in granting of assistance. 
  2. Applicants must have a parent or legal guardian who is a member in good standing of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts or a parent, grandparent or legal guardian who is retired or is a deceased member of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts.
  3. The candidate must be accepted at an accredited post-secondary institution.
  4. No request for assistance will be considered until the candidate has provided a complete application. Failure to complete the application may result in disqualification. 
  5. Scholarship will be made payable upon receipt of the student’s ID and a copy of the student’s deposit from bursar’s office. 
  6. All scholarships will be used towards school related expenses.
